Macx Bespoke Carpentry & Joinery is a sole-trade carpentry and joinery business run by Conor Lysaght, based in Torquay and working across South Devon. Conor has built a reputation for considered, high-quality bespoke work, attracting high level domestic clients and commercial partners who care as much about the finish as he does.
When Conor decided it was time to take his marketing seriously, the brief was clear: build something that reflects the standard of the work, and give him a platform he can grow from.
This project covered brand discovery, copywriting, photography, website design and SEO.
The Project
Conor had built up a great reputation through referrals, he needed an online presence to take him to the next level.
- No website, just a light social media presence and a word-of-mouth pipeline that was working, but hard to scale.
- No way for potential clients to find him when searching for bespoke carpentry in South Devon.
- No online presence that refelcted the quality and range of his work.
What I Did
Brand Discovery
Before a word was written or a page designed, we sat down over coffee and Conor talked me through his business, the kind of work he wanted more of, and the clients he was hoping to reach. From that conversation came a clear picture of who Macx is: a skilled, confident craftsman who produces quality work.
That foundation shaped everything that followed – the tone of the copy, the feel of the site, and the way the brand presents itself to both domestic and commercial audiences.
Copywriting
The copy was written in Conor’s voice – first person, warm but assured. The goal was to position him as a premium bespoke carpenter without sounding corporate.
Each page had its own job to do. The home page needed to make an immediate impression and direct visitors onward. The about page needed to build trust and show the person behind the work. The domestic and commercial service pages needed to speak to different audiences in the right register – warmer and more personal for homeowners, more direct and project-focused for trade and commercial clients.
Case studies were written to show Conor’s range – from a bespoke summerhouse in Fowey built in Iroko and Accoya, to an eco house in Cornwall requiring steamed and laminated oak on curved walls.
Brand Photography
When a business relies on showcasing quality, good photography is important. We scheduled an on-site shoot to capture Conor’s craft properly with candid shots showing his craftsmanship. The photography gives the site the visual quality it needs to attract the clients Conor is after, and gives him a bank of images to carry across his marketing going forward.
Website Design & SEO
The site was built with a minimal, editorial aesthetic, with clean layouts, plenty of space, and photography given room to breathe. The design allows the work to be front and centre, which is exactly what a bespoke carpentry business at this level needs.
SEO fundamentals were built in from the start – page titles, meta descriptions, heading structure, alt text and copy all written with local search in mind, targeting bespoke carpentry across South Devon including Torquay, Exeter and Plymouth.

Conor now has a website he’s genuinely proud to send people to – a professional, considered platform that reflects the standard of his work and gives him a foundation to grow from.
